200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

A 200 Hour yoga teacher training is globally recognised as the minimum requirement to teach yoga. That said, currently there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher. MOVE Yoga supports Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance, the globally recognised peak bodies for yoga worldwide with a view to support and create internationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings. We believe in continuing education and that a 200 hour teacher training is the beginning of a life long commitment to the study of yoga and all its philosophies. Our 200 hour Teacher Training is approved by Yoga Alliance and students who complete the course will also be eligible to register with both as a member.
Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings in the US. More and more yoga studios across the country are requiring their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance, either at the 200-Hour or 500-Hour level. Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.

Yoga Australia is a voluntary, not-for-profit association, incorporated in 1999 (originally known as the Yoga Teachers Association). Originally founded by a group of independent yoga teachers who recognised the need to bring yoga teachers together from all different traditions, styles and backgrounds, to provide mutual support and professional recognition of yoga in Australia. Today Yoga Australia is recognised as the peak body for Yoga in Australia. We strive to support our fellow yogis and ensure the sustainability and longevity of our industry in this country and around the globe.

Teachers who have gained 200 hours of certification with MOVE Yoga will be eligible to apply for a 200 RYT membership with Yoga Alliance (the leading peak body in the US) and a provisional membership with Yoga Australia (the leading peak body in the Australia) and gain the benefits of being a recognized and certified teacher. Further studies towards a 500 hour qualification gives you an internationally recognized high standard of Yoga training in which you may apply for accreditation with Yoga Australia as a Level 3 teacher and Yoga Alliance as a 500 hour RYT or E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) enabling you to register and facilitate your own Yoga training programs in the future. Membership requirements for both peak bodies differ and may be updated from time to time, so it is best to check their website for further information.

Yes, 200 hour teachers are eligible to get insurance from various insurance providers upon completion of the 200 hour teacher training certificate. That said, it is important to seek advice from each insurance provider as to the level of cover and what is covered as each cover can differ from provider to provider. Some gymnasiums and yoga studios will have existing professional indemnity cover for their yoga teachers, and others will require the teacher to provide their certificate of currency stating their cover. Also, if you plan on starting a yoga studio, or teaching from a public or hire space, you will need to look into further cover including professional indemnity. Again, this can vary from case to case, so it is important to spend some time on selecting the right cover for your situation, and to re-consider your cover when your circumstances change.
